The "goodbye" to the 7 PAOK fans in Toumba broke hearts
The bodies of the seven fans were repatriated yesterday afternoon on a C130 military aircraft, which flew to Timisoara specifically for this purpose.
The aircraft landed at "Macedonia" airport at approximately 18:00, where approximately 200 PAOK fans gathered to welcome their companions and accompany them in a motorized procession to the Toumba stadium.
The seven bodies arrived at the team's stadium via Georgikis Scholis Avenue, Ethnikis Antistaseos Street, Vasilissis Olgas Avenue, Voulgari Street, Konstantinou Karamanlis Avenue and Kleanthos Street.
The "eaglets" bid farewell to the fallen young men with horns and slogans such as "Brothers, live, you lead us," while torches turned "the night into day."
Particularly moving scenes also unfolded in Toumba upon the arrival of the hearses. The hearses circled the stadium and then stopped in front of Gate 4 where the remaining fans who were unable to travel by vehicle to "Macedonia" airport were waiting.
The team's fans who flooded the stadium, with intense emotion, honored the dead, while lighting candles and tealights in memory of the children.
Meanwhile, shortly after 13:00, the EKAB plane landed in Thessaloniki from Timisoara airport on Thursday afternoon (29/1), repatriating to Greece two of the three injured in the deadly collision in Romania. The flight to Macedonia airport lasted approximately 3 hours.
The two injured in Papageorgiou are in stable condition.
Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, two of the three injured in the accident, who were transported and are being treated at Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki, were repatriated.
According to an update from Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, the two injured are in good clinical condition.
The third injured person remains hospitalized in Timisoara, as he underwent surgery at the Timisoara hospital and his airlift will take place as soon as this becomes medically feasible.
The two injured people who returned to the country yesterday, aged 20 and 28, are undergoing tests. The 20-year-old has a head injury and is being treated at the neurosurgery clinic.
The 28-year-old was slightly injured and, according to reports, requested to be discharged to attend the funerals of his favorite team's fans. However, doctors did not allow him to do so and he is being treated as a precaution at the Surgical Clinic.
The injured were transported by the EKAB Air Transport vessel from Timisoara, Romania to the "Macedonia" airport in Thessaloniki. They were then transported to "Papageorgiou" by two EKAB Mobile Medical Units.
