The investigation by the officers of the Arson Crimes Division (DAEE) into the Violanta factory in Trikala, which collapsed after a powerful explosion, resulting in the death of five workers, continues with unabated intensity.
According to information from protothema.gr from well-informed sources, excavations will continue next week to find new evidence, while new supplementary statements will be taken from other people in the company.
At the same time, DIE researchers took the company's files from the Development Directorate of the Thessaly Region yesterday, Thursday (28/1) to check the unauthorized operations, etc.
The leak has been going on for months, officials had informed
As appears from the statements received so far, many employees had smelled - some a lot, some a little - an odor that suggested gas and had informed their superiors about it.
Something that was also confirmed by the shift manager, who said that some employees had informed him about this strange smell and that he, in turn, had passed the information on to the production manager.
The investigation conducted by the Fire Department quickly concluded that the cause of the deadly explosion was a propane leak. The gas accumulated in the basement and a spark led to the massive explosion that claimed five lives.
It is worth noting that, as the investigation shows, the basement was not declared and was mainly used as a storage space. The propane entered the basement through the holes in the reinforced concrete.
What investigators are now checking is whether the company had taken all the necessary safety measures, while what is being examined as the most likely cause of the gas leak is asphalt paving work carried out on the road over propane pipes in the summer.
