Residents of the Cyclades are on 24-hour alert due to the ongoing seismic tremors in Santorini, and the Greek authorities have increased the preventive measures they are taking.
Specifically, since yesterday, Tuesday (4/2), EMAK and the Mobile Operations Center of the "Olympus" Fire Department arrived on the island, while the director of the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens Observatory, Vasilis Karastathis, states that the phenomenon is being monitored and warns that de-escalation could take weeks or even months.
Meanwhile, more than 20.000 people, permanent residents and tourists, have departed from Santorini.
At the same time, two earthquakes, measuring 4 and 4,3 on the Richter Scale, were recorded at dawn within a 5-minute interval in the sea area between Santorini and Amorgos. The first earthquake, measuring 4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 4:16 with an epicenter 18 km. S.W. of Arkesini, Amorgos and a focal depth of 10,8 km.
