The human mind cannot comprehend the tragedy that occurred in a Primary school in Serres. An 11-year-old student dropped dead in front of his classmates and sister.
It is recalled that apart from the 35th grade student who died instantly, two other children, XNUMXst and XNUMXth graders were injured. From the explosion, XNUMX meters long pieces of wall and a metal door were hurled, which fell on the children resulting in the tragic end.
The 10-year-old student, who suffered minor injuries and was released on Monday afternoon, said the incident happened during the all-day school break, when the children went to play ball in the backyard, near the boiler room, in the shed because it was raining.
"We were playing ball and suddenly we heard a terrible noise and stones and metal objects started falling on us, in fact one of them hit a classmate of mine" he said, not knowing the tragic outcome of the events. In fact, at the time the tragedy happened, the 11-year-old's younger sister was also in the school yard and started looking for him. The 11-year-old was the flag bearer in his class. His funeral is scheduled for the afternoon at the A Cemetery of Serres.
"We heard a terrible bang. At first we didn't realize what was happening, but soon people started flocking. After the explosion, we learned that work was being done at the school," said Konstantinos Ilanidis, the owner of a canteen near the school, himself a witness to the incident, who described to ERT the hours of anxiety as the parents arrived at the school as soon as the tragic incident became known.
The lawyer for the family of the unfortunate student is following the investigations into what he did wrong. The fact that the maintenance and conversion of the burner was carried out during school hours with the director of the school complex in Serres and the mayor denouncing the contractor of the project raises questions.
