Relatives and friends said their last goodbye in Komotini to Glykeria Memekidou, the rear admiral of Navy, who lost her life in the tragic accident of the Greek humanitarian mission in Libya with a total of five dead Greeks – three soldiers and two translators.
During the exit of the body from the holy temple, those gathered shouted "heroine" for the deceased rear admiral.
The funeral service for the 46-year-old rear admiral was chanted at the Annunciation church of Komotini by the Metropolitan of Maroneia & Komotini, Panteleimon.
At the funeral, a resolution of the Komotini municipal council was read by its president, Cleopatra Stogiannidou.
The body of the unfortunate rear admiral arrived at the church covered with the Greek flag, while the church was full of hundreds of people, representatives of the Armed Forces and the Greek state, while in the courtyard, honorees from the Army and the Navy paid their respects.
