Opposition Criticism of Al Jazeera Revelations

The opposition issued a statement regarding the revelations of the Al Jazeera report, asking for explanations from the Government.

The announcements of DIKO and AKEL are the same

The announcement of DIKO as it is

The government must provide immediate answers to serious questions arising from Al Jazeera's new revelations involving the Republic of Cyprus and the Cyprus Investment Program in a new scandal as well as the OCCRP's insistence on the naturalized Saudi case and relations. with President Anastasiadis.

Did the Minister of Government Anastasiadis travel to London in order to facilitate a Russian escape?

Are there other similar cases that are covered up?

As long as the government casts shadows and as long as impunity prevails, the international reputation of the Republic of Cyprus continues and intensifies.

The Nikolatos Investigation Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must also give explanations, while we expect the Attorney General to inform about the course of all corruption cases that have been identified in the findings.

This is the announcement of AKEL

Zero tolerance for anyone involved in corruption cases

Yesterday's reports by Al Jazeera and the OCCRP (International Observatory for Organized Crime and Corruption) bring back an issue that has plagued Cyprus for some time - institutional corruption and entanglement.

The reports on the involvement of a minister in the issuance of a passport to a Russian who from Interpol, are not answered with Pythian, vague, denials.

The references to the irregular process of granting the citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus to the Saudi friend of President Anastasiadis are not answered with evasions that did not convince anyone.

Corruption - which has grown in the days of the current government - is hurting the economy and pushing serious investors to invest in Cyprus. It undermines institutions, democracy, equality. It is no coincidence that 68% of Cypriots believe that the government of our country is dependent on private interests. But none of this seems to bother the rulers. Because, quite simply, the Anastasiadis government itself is part of the problem.

AKEL sent from the first moment a message of zero tolerance for anyone involved in corruption cases. We repeat now that:

- The government must give convincing, clear answers to all the accusations.

- The Attorney General must investigate in depth the new allegations and lead those involved in accountability and punishment.

The issue of "golden passports" will end when it clears the name of our homeland. It will end when we convince, inside and outside Cyprus, that the feast of greed, opacity and entanglement has come to an end.
