Under recently tightened French law, parents face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to 45.000 euros if they publish details of third-party lives even if they are their children, without their prior consent.

"In a few years, children will be able to take their parents to court to publish photos of them when they were younger," said a French lawyer.

"Under French law, parents are responsible for protecting their children," a second lawyer told Le Figaro.

Pedophiles lurk

The French police also reminded of the danger of pedophiles targeting children after posting family photos on social media. A vice president of Facebook reveals that a system is being designed to inform parents who upload photos of their children without changing the security settings.
