The agreement between the Municipality of Paralimni and Green Dot for the collection of recyclable materials has been definitively terminated and now, the Municipality will reopen the system with another company, from next Monday.

The two sides have blamed each other for the shipwreck, with the Municipality of Paralimni being more vocal in its written statement, saying "Green Dot has taken off the mask", and questioning the organisation's non-profit role. A

For its part, Green Dot argues that the only reason it has been forced to end its cooperation has to do with the fact that the municipality has not paid its dues for 3,5 years.

According to the municipality, after assuming the duties of mayor, "it was found that Green Dot collected less than 25% of the recyclable materials, instead of more than 50% as is its obligation".

At the same time, he wonders "who are the people behind Green Dot, what are their earnings, and what are their benefits if they exist", as well as "what is the connection between Green Dot and the major industries that channel recyclable cooperation into the market".

He asks the Environment Commissioner, the Department of the Environment and the Minister of Agriculture to intervene, while he says that the Municipality of Paralimni will reopen the recycling system on October 20.

The Municipality of Paralimni speaks of "blackmail" and "threats" on the part of Green Dot, claiming that the company unilaterally stopped the program for the collection of recyclable materials from the bins in the area "at the altar of economic benefit".
"No blackmail," said Green Dot, who has said she has been unpaid for 3,5 years and has repeatedly warned the municipality.

Green Dot points out that with regret it was forced to suspend its cooperation with the Municipality of Paralimni from October 8, 2015. The gradual withdrawal of recycling bins from the Municipality will be completed by October 20. As he explains, "this development, which is unpleasant for everyone, is a result of the refusal of the Municipality of Paralimni to meet the financial obligations arising from the agreement between us."
He explains that Green Dot is a non-profit organization and offers recycling services to Cypriot society.

He stressed that the local authorities contribute 17% of the expenses and Green Dot cooperates responsibly and constructively with 26 municipalities and 30 communities. According to Green Dot, "if any Local Authority wishes to do recycling by its own means, or in any other way, it is free to do so."
