The Industrial Production Index increased by 4,1% in the period January – September 2024, compared to the corresponding period of 2023.
According to the Statistical Service, the Index of Industrial Production for September 2024 reached 114,9 points (base 2021=100), marking an increase of 2,3%, compared to September 2023.
The manufacturing sector saw an increase of 2,3%, compared to September 2023. An increase was also recorded in the sectors of mining and quarrying (+11,8%) and water supply and material recovery (+7,2 %). A negative change was noted in the electricity supply sector (-1,8%).
In the manufacturing sector, according to the Statistical Service, the most significant positive changes compared to September 2023 were presented in the following economic activities: manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (+16,4%), manufacture of electronics and optical products and electrical equipment (+11,2%) and production of base metals and manufacture of metal products (+10,8%).
On the contrary, the most significant negative changes were observed in the activities of manufacture of paper and paper products and printing (-13,6%), manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-3,4%) and manufacture of furniture and repair/installation of machinery and equipment (- 3,0%).
Besides, according to the Statistical Service, comparing the rates of change for the period January - September 2024 with the corresponding period of 2023, the most important increases are observed in the collection, treatment and supply of water (+22,1%), in the manufacture of electronics and optics products and electrical equipment (+15,3%), in mining and quarries (+12,9%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (+11,5%) and in material recovery (+10,6%).
On the contrary, the most important activities in which reductions in production are observed, compared to the period January – September 2023, were those of the manufacture of paper and paper products and printing (-8,8%) and the production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (-2,2%).
