In 2023, 16,9% of Cypriots faced difficulty in heating their homes, above the EU average (10,6%), according to data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Compared to 2022, the percentage of those who could not adequately heat their home in Cyprus decreased by 2,3 percentage points (pp) from 19,2%, while in the EU it increased by 1,3 percentage points (pp) from 9,3%.
The highest percentages of people facing this problem in 2023 were recorded in Spain and Portugal (20,8% in both), followed by Bulgaria (20,7%), Lithuania (20,0%) and Greece (19,2%).
The lowest rates were recorded in Luxembourg (2,1%), Finland (2,6%), Slovenia (3,6%), Austria (3,9%) and Estonia (4,1%).
