The Government is proceeding with a significant expansion of the circle of beneficiaries for student sponsorship, said today Government Spokesperson Mr. Konstantinos Letymbiotis.

In statements to journalists at the Presidential Palace, as part of his Media Briefing, the Spokesperson said that "in the context of the modernization of student care, the Council of Ministers approved at its meeting yesterday the amending bill for state student sponsorship, which will be forwarded immediately to the House of Representatives.

This initiative implements the political direction presented by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, during the Annual Government Planning on February 5, to modernize and strengthen support for students and their families. In this context, the budget for student sponsorship is increased to 62 million euros, thus significantly expanding the circle of beneficiaries and strengthening the level of support for thousands of families.

Specifically, all income categories are being increased by five thousand euros, which allows more families to join the state student care system. At the same time, a ten percent increase is foreseen in the amount of student sponsorship for families with an annual income of up to 44 thousand euros, substantially boosting their disposable income in a period of increased educational and family needs.

Of particular importance is the provision for large families. For families with five or more dependent children, income and property criteria are abolished, further expanding access to student sponsorship and actively recognizing the increased needs of these specific family units.

The political message is clear. Responsible economic policy creates the fiscal space that allows the State to pursue targeted and effective social policy. Economic stability is not an end in itself. However, it is the tool that allows us to support society and especially the younger generation.

Simply put, when the economy is managed responsibly, society benefits. And investing in our students is investing in the future of the country.
The Government continues with the same consistency: a strong economy for a strong society. Because every responsible fiscal decision must return as a benefit to the citizen and especially to the young people who constitute the future of our homeland."
