The trade unions announced their decision to escalate the measures if deemed appropriate after a pan-union meeting held on Wednesday at the offices of the Greek Confederation of Trade Unions (SEK) in Nicosia, regarding the issue of Automatic Indexation (ATA). The unions will meet with the Minister of Labor on Friday.
The Secretary General of the Greek Confederation of Labor, Andreas Matsas, in his statements after the two-hour meeting, said that they have received an invitation and that they will go to next Friday's meeting with the Minister of Labor, "with a positive attitude" and that "depending on the positions or the approach that will be analyzed for us, we have made a decision and are authorized to activate previous decisions to escalate the measures if this is deemed appropriate."
He also said that they will give the opportunity at Friday's meeting to clarify and specify the Government's approaches, "to evaluate the possibility that may be given to restore the institution of the ATA, but beyond that, it is clear that we will not accept any discounts. The message received from the strikers was clear, and the collective position of the trade unions today was also clear that if necessary, we will escalate the measures."
