The Cyprus Consumers Association is speaking out about unfair and unjustified treatment of heating oil consumers, in relation to the announcement of a reduction in the consumption tax rate on motor fuels by 8,3 cents/liter for consumers, which comes into effect from April 1 until the end of June 2026.
In a statement, the Association requests from the Ministry of Finance the immediate inclusion of heating oil in the reduced consumption tax rate. “There is no justification in any case for its exclusion from the subsidy,” it points out in its statement, adding that, “from March 1st until today, March 29th, 2026, heating oil increased by an average of 32 cents per liter and it is estimated that by the end of next week there will be significant additional increases.”
At the same time, it emphasizes that heating oil consumption remains significant during the April-June period, especially in mountainous areas where use continues until mid-May. Based on data from the Statistical Service, the average monthly consumption for the specific quarter amounts to 2.549 tons.
It also reports that the average total consumption of heating oil from petroleum stations for the months of April to June, according to data from the Statistical Service, is 2549 tons per month. The consumption of heating oil in mountainous areas continues until mid-May.
