The “rich” version of the Christmas table is presented without any price differences, according to the research and comparison conducted by the Cyprus Consumers Association. At the same time, in the version of the Christmas table for the weaker financial incomes presented by the Association, an increase of 9% is observed compared to last year.
The Association's survey was conducted from December 10 to 19, 2025. A total of three retail price surveys were conducted, only in supermarkets in Nicosia, and included a total of 34 food and beverage items.
The research aimed to calculate the cost of the Christmas table for both 4 people and 6 people for the categories "rich table" which includes all 34 products, "economical table" which includes only 19 of the 34 products, and "table for the weakest financial incomes" which includes only 11 of the 34 products.
According to the results of the survey, the total cost of a "rich" table for a four-member family in Nicosia is estimated at 160 euros and for a six-member family at 227 euros. Compared to the cost of the 2024 Christmas table, there is no difference. The total cost was approximately at the same levels.
The total cost of an "economic" table includes 19 of the 34 items. For a family of four in Nicosia, it is estimated at 98 euros and for a family of six, 129 euros.
The total cost of a table for the weakest income groups includes 11 of the 34 items. For a family of four in Nicosia it is estimated at 33 euros and for a family of six at 49 euros. Compared to the cost of the 2024 Christmas table, there is an increase of 9%.
According to the Association, fluctuations were observed in the number of products in the survey between December 10 and December 19, the period during which the survey was conducted. On December 19, a significant decrease in lamb meat was observed due to the offers in supermarkets of around 12%. In addition, a large average increase was observed in cucumbers of around 82%, in tomatoes an average increase of 65% and in potatoes an average increase of 10%.
It is noted that a number of items included in the survey were offered at offer prices. The majority of offers were maintained throughout the survey.
The Association also notes that significant price differences between points of sale were observed for Christmas delicacies. However, because these items can differ significantly in terms of the materials used in their manufacture, and even their exact weight, their comparison cannot be considered reliable and objective, and is therefore not commented on in the research.
