The first increases in fuel prices in Cyprus after the start of the Iran-Israel conflict were made yesterday by two importing companies, the President of the Gas Station Owners Association, Savvas Prokopiou, told CNA, who expects the remaining companies to follow suit today or tomorrow, as well as the imposition of the green tax on fuel at the end of June.
Asked whether there have been increases in fuel prices in Cyprus following the significant rise in international oil prices due to Israel's attack on Iran, Mr. Prokopiou said that "the first increases" in prices in Cyprus have already been made yesterday by two fuel importing companies and "we expect today or tomorrow that the remaining importing companies will also proceed with a price increase."
"I believe that (later) we will still have a little increase in prices, but I hope they stop there because we are seeing a stabilization in the international price of oil (around 72 to 73 dollars per barrel)," he added.
He noted that the issue of fluctuations in fuel prices in Cyprus is being handled by the competent department of the Ministry of Energy together with the importing companies.
Furthermore, the President of the Gas Station Owners Association told CNA that "at the end of the month, the green tax on fuel will begin to be imposed" and expressed the hope that "the Government will have second thoughts and postpone, once again, the imposition of this tax on fuel, due to the situation" prevailing with the Iran-Israel conflict.
