The granting of an Easter allowance of 250 euros to low-income pensioners was announced by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.
Addressing the members of the Council of Ministers, at the start of today's session of the House, at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic said that, "the granting of the Easter allowance of 250 euros to low-income pensioners. Let me remind you that by our own decision there was an increase of 30% from last year, from 190 to 250 euros. A significant number, in addition to 11 thousand low-income pensioners, benefit and it is a decision that demonstrates both the particular sensitivity we have towards our low-income pensioners - it comes in continuation of other decisions that have been taken - and the social aspect of our policies.
I close with a reference to tomorrow. Tomorrow marks 70 years since the beginning of the purest struggle in this country, a struggle that led to us having the Republic of Cyprus today, to us being here today, in what is most important to us.
"Tomorrow the entire Council of Ministers, except for those who will be in the provinces, at 11am we will go to the Prisoner's Tombs to pay due respect to the fighters of EOKA, in the EOKA struggle which was the purest struggle that took place in this country."
