The e-kalathi application is expected to be available for public use within the next week, according to what the Head of the Competition Branch at the Consumer Protection Service, Aliki Iordanous, told CNA.
It is recalled that Apple's approval for the application to be available for devices using the iOS operating system had been pending since late April. Ms. Iordanou explained that the approval was given after some technical changes were made, which, however, she clarified, do not affect the substance or the final image that the user will have.
Responding to a question about the next steps, Ms. Iordano said that supermarkets should be informed about 2-3 days in advance before the application is launched, in order to download the prices of the products in the system. She noted that a preliminary information regarding the approval by Apple was given to supermarkets as early as May 2.
Ms. Iordano recalled that 22 supermarket chains, with a total of 165 stores, are contracted with the application, and that a total of 478 products will be posted on it, the prices of which will be updated only whenever there is a change.
He also noted that the system will display information to the contracting manager, as well as to the Service, in the event that an excessively high price is identified, so that there can be immediate communication with the supermarket, to determine whether the issue is technical or of another nature and to receive appropriate management.
