The Association of Electricity Suppliers Representatives (SEPE) points out serious problems in metering data, which increase costs in the electricity market and directly affect consumers, in a statement today, calling on the competent authorities to intervene immediately to ensure transparency, accuracy and proper functioning of the market.
In particular, the Association states that metering data is an extremely important tool for the planning of electricity supply companies participating in the Competitive Electricity Market, i.e. the energy consumed by their customers.
He adds that supply companies must receive timely, reliable and certified metering data from the Distribution System Operator (DSO), because if suppliers purchase a smaller or larger volume of energy than their actual needs, they are charged fees, which are sooner or later passed on to consumers.
The Association of Electricity Suppliers Representatives (SEPI) states, among other things, that its member companies bear no responsibility for this specific problem, as the Distribution System Operator is solely responsible for the regular and correct updating of metering data, through the software (MDMS) it has.
He also adds that since the start of the commercial operation of the Competitive Market, on October 1, 2025, until today, the DSO has been unable to adequately serve the supply companies, despite the fact that it has been pointed out in a timely manner that the data is not being provided on time or is not correct.
"We call on the competent authorities to immediately address the problems and provide solutions that will allow all wholesale participants, without exception, to reduce their costs and offer cheaper energy to end consumers. These distortions are not a creation of the Competitive Electricity Market," the announcement concludes.
