The percentage of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in Cyprus in 2025 stood at 17,1%, according to data published on Thursday by Eurostat.
Overall, the number of people affected in Cyprus amounts to 167.000 for 2025. Compared to 2024, the percentage remained unchanged, while an increase of approximately 3.000 people is recorded.
By gender, in Cyprus for 2025, approximately 75.000 men (15,5%) and 93.000 women (18,7%) are recorded as being at risk of poverty or social exclusion.
At the European Union level, in 2025, 92,7 million people, i.e. 20,9% of the population, were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The percentage shows a marginal decrease compared to 2024, when it amounted to 21,0% (93,3 million people). Of the 92,7 million, 43.025.000 are men and 49.720.000 are women.
As Eurostat reports, these people live in households facing at least one of three factors: at-risk-of-poverty, severe material and social deprivation or very low work intensity.
Variations between Member States
The highest rates in the EU are recorded in Bulgaria (29,0%), Greece (27,5%) and Romania (27,4%). Conversely, the lowest rates are in the Czech Republic (11,5%), Poland (15,0%) and Slovenia (15,5%).
It is noted that Eurostat data reflects the social picture in EU Member States for 2025, based on the at-risk-of-poverty and social exclusion indicators.
