The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia proceeded with an important collaboration with the Antikensammlung - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, aiming at the digital recording and scientific reproduction of the bust of Aphrodite of Leucolla.
The agreement was ratified in Berlin during a visit by a delegation from the Municipality and is the result of months of contacts between the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, Giorgos Nikolettos, and the Director of the Antikensammlung, Dr. Martin Maischberger.
As part of the collaboration, the museum will perform a 3D scan of the ancient head of Aphrodite of Leucolla, creating a high-precision digital archive which will be provided to the Municipality without financial burden and without legal restrictions.
At the same time, the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, under the scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. Stephan G. Schmid, will create a scientific replica of the head both in its current form and in the form of a scientific restoration, as the sculpture is estimated to have been in its original form.
During the visit to Berlin, meetings were held with scientists from the two institutions and a presentation of the technologies that will be used to implement the project.
The contacts took place in an excellent atmosphere and pave the way for further scientific cooperation and possible archaeological investigation of the area of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, while a visit by Prof. Dr. Stephan G. Schmid and his research team to Paralimni is expected soon.
The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia expresses its deep satisfaction with the results of the contacts in Berlin and reaffirms its will to continue international cultural and scientific cooperation to highlight the unique cultural heritage of the region.
