Shortages of stored fuel are observed in the occupied areas with the president of the association of gas station owners, Levent Chiagdal stating that for the past two days there is no fuel oil in the market.
As he explained, on the one hand is the increase in the purchase price of fuel due to the increase in the value of the dollar and on the other hand the small quantities that are now bought by the distribution companies in the occupied territories in order to reduce the risk of damage. Nevertheless, he continued, diesel fuel continues to be cheaper in the occupied areas, since a liter of gasoline costs 1.45 euros (22 TL), in Turkey 11 TL and in the occupied areas 8.76 TL. He noted, however, that in the last month and a half there has been a sharp rise in fuel prices due to the fall in the exchange rate.
The prices of fuel in the occupied territories, said Mr. Chiagdal, "lock" in exchange every 21 days with the result that the fuel importing companies have suffered a loss of 60-70 kour (subdivision of the pound 1 TL = 100 kour) per liter. Therefore, he added, the pricing system must be changed and the "lock" must be valid for a period of only 7 days.
But also at the power plant outside Kyrenia there is a problem in the supply of fuel due to the weather conditions. The website of Yeni Duzen states that the ship has dropped anchor off the station as due to the strong winds it cannot approach the shore and transport the fuel.
In the meantime, new increases in milk, cheese and halloumi are expected as the cooperative milk (corresponding to the Milk Agency) that determines the price of raw milk every 15 days, prepares for new increases. According to the reports, the liter of raw milk from 9.95 will be sold for 10.95 TL (0.73 euros) and the kilo of halloumi from 73.50 to 95 TL (6.33 euros), while the white cheese from 56.70 will go to 74 TL (4.93 euros).
It is noted that the euro has reached 15 TL while last week it was at 13,45. The dollar today reached 13.27 TL and the pound sterling 17,06 TL.
