The total number of registered vehicles increased by 9,1% in 2024 and reached 49.616, compared to 45.494 in 2023, according to the Statistical Service, with the share of electric vehicles reaching 4,0%, from 2,7 % in 2023 and of hybrids to 37,1%, from 29,6% in 2023.
Registrations of saloon passenger cars increased in the period January – December 2024 by 4,9% to 38.410, compared to 36.608 in the corresponding period of 2023.
Of the total passenger saloon cars, 15.061 or 39,2% were new and 23.349 or 60,8% were used cars. Rental cars in particular saw a 30,0% decrease to 3.904.
The share of gasoline-powered saloon cars in the total of this vehicle category decreased in the period January – December 2024 to 48,6% (from 57,5% in the corresponding period of 2023).
On the contrary, according to the Statistical Service, the share of diesel vehicles increased (from 10,2% in 2023 to 10,3% in 2024), electric vehicles (from 2,7% in 2023 to 4,0% in 2024) and of hybrids (from 29,6% to 37,1%).
Besides, bus registrations fell to 133 in the January-December 2024 period, from 329 in the same period of 2023, while registrations of freight vehicles increased to 5.811 in the same period of 2024, compared to 4.374 in the corresponding period of 2023, noting an increase of 32,9%.
Specifically, light trucks increased by 36,1% to 4.638, heavy trucks by 30,1% to 695, road tractors (trailers) by 54,8% to 243, while rental vehicles decreased by 14,2% to 235.
Furthermore, according to the Statistics Office, registrations of mopeds < 50cc increased to 690 in the period January-December 2024, compared to 321 during the same period in 2023.
Motorcycle registrations > 50cc increased by 17,4% to 3.903 in the January – December 2024 period, compared to 3.324 in the same period in 2023.
The main manufacturers of motor vehicles registered in Cyprus during 2024 were Japan (40,6%), Germany (13,9%), the United Kingdom (6,7%), France (6,5 %) and South Korea (4,2%).
The most popular color of vehicles registered in 2024 was white at 36,6%, followed by gray (19,9%), black (14,8%), blue (8,9%) and silver (7,4%).

Besides, according to the Statistical Service, in December 2024, total motor vehicle registrations reached 2.836, a 5,3% decrease compared to 2.994 in December 2023.
Saloon passenger car registrations fell 16,9% to 2.050 from 2.468 in December 2023.
