Any commercial activity for nicotine pouches, which includes wholesaling and selling them to the public, without the required permits, is prohibited, the Pharmaceutical Services said.
According to their announcement, the Pharmaceutical Services, on the occasion of the great interest in marketing and placing on the market consumer products containing nicotine in the form of nicotine pouches, informs the interested parties that the Medicines Council, in a session on October 2, 2024, decided the following:
In the absence of other national legislation or other national regulations in Cyprus, and until the regulation of these products at the European level, taking into account the harmful consequences of the use of nicotine, for the purposes of protecting public health, decided to maintain the classification of these products as pharmaceuticals, as defined in article 2 of the Medicines for Human Use (Quality, Supply and Price Control) Law.
"Therefore, in order for these products to be able to be legally marketed in the Republic, a marketing license is required, pursuant to the above Law, and therefore any commercial activity that includes wholesale and sale to the public, without the required permits, is prohibited," the announcement concludes.
