The government doctors go on a 48-hour strike at the end of November, after rejecting the proposal of the State Health Services Organization (OKYpY), in relation to the financial incentives of 2023.
The decision to reinstate the strike measures was taken after today's meeting between the Pancypriot Union of Government Doctors (PASYKI) and OKYPY, with the President of the Union, Sotiris Koumas, stating to KYPE that the exact date of the strike will be determined later, while there will be discussions between the guilds, whether the Emergency Departments will be included and Accidents (TAEP).
As reported to the KYPE by Mr. Koumas, during the meeting "there were strong disagreements" regarding the amount of financial incentives, which will be given to the doctors, since as he explained, OKYpY, after a study, decided that this amount will amount to 2,5 million euros, while the guilds request as a financial incentive, for the services they offered in the year 2023, within the framework of the GeSY, 4,5 million euros.
It is noted that last July an independent Auditing House undertook the calculation of the financial incentives of doctors for 2023, after a joint meeting of OKYpY and doctors with the Minister of Health.
Speaking to KYPE, the President of PASYKI spoke of a "disparaging" proposal of OKYpY to doctors and called on the Minister of Health to take a position.
"The OKYpY proposal for 2023 was rejected. Our position is that we do not discuss further for 2024, 2025 or 2027 - whatever they want to define it - if the agreement for 2023 is not reached. We claim the doctors' earnings for 2023" , emphasized Mr. Kumas.
As he added, "the agreement cannot be given a partial interpretation and attribution to the doctors", to add that "the proposal submitted by OKYPY is discrediting to the doctors and the question arises, why did we have to wait for them to give us the information just 16 hours before the meeting."
According to Sotiris Koumas, the study was ready since September "but for some reason they did not have the honesty and courage to inform us". He said that "today it finally happened", to note that "we reject the amount that they consider to be ours, since it is disparaging and insulting to doctors".
He referred to the two slides that OKYpY sent to doctors just yesterday. “All the talk they wanted to have is about two slides. An amount is recorded for 2024. I open a parenthesis. The agreement they invoke does not give them the right to discuss the granting of compensation for two years at the same time. It's just for each year," he said.
He explained, further, that if this is taken "purely accounting and mathematically, it means that the revenues of the Agency have decreased significantly", recalling that "the Agency last week, through the legislation of the supplementary budget of the OAU, has been approved to receive approximately 30 35 cm from the OAU (for the first time it collects this amount), as compensation for 2024 for the services it offers".
“So,” he noted, “after collecting, one would reasonably expect the amount to increase. This is - not a bell - but bells and finally everyone must take their responsibilities, responsibilities for the sustainability of public hospitals".
In addition, he said that "doctors are on the front line night and day" and that "some others have to do their job, some others have to check them, some others have to take their political responsibilities."
Addressing the Minister of Health, he said that "he is the political head, he appoints the Board of Directors of OKYPY and he was personally involved in the discussions", asking him to be informed about the content of the overall study, as presented by the independent audit house and "to take a position ” and forward it to them.
