A new General Assembly of the workers in the Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch is being held at 09:30, in Limassol, in order to decide their next steps, after yesterday's collapse of the efforts to renew the collective agreement.
The KYPE contacted the representatives of the SEK, PEO and DEOK guilds, who state that they are going to Limassol with several proposals, expressing the hope for a happy outcome.
Specifically, the union representatives will propose to any companies that are ready to accept the collective agreement, as it was accepted by the Unions and the Association, to sign it and the workers to return to work immediately.
It is noted that any companies that do not accept the collective agreement will continue the strike.
However, according to the representatives of the Unions, yesterday and today there was "intense interest" from many companies to sign the collective agreement.
In his statements to the KYPE, the General Secretary of OOIMSEK-SEK, Stelios Tsiapoutis, said that the Assembly is held to hear opinions and to decide together with the workers the next steps.
As he said, one of the main proposals they will submit is to make separate minutes of agreement, for each company, noting that "each company will sign the final proposal, together with the other documents that have been agreed at the Ministry and the employees will start immediate work".
"Any company that does not sign will continue the strike," he clarified.
The General Secretary of the Union of Builders, Mechanical Technicians of PEO, Michalis Papanikolaou, told KYPE that as many companies are ready "we will recommend that they sign the collective agreement individually".
The General Secretary of the DEOK Builders' Guild, Stelios Efstratiou, expressed the optimism that today's Assembly will end positively.
"Several days have passed. I think, barring the unexpected, we must succeed," he said.
According to Stelios Efstratiou, several companies showed strong interest yesterday and today in signing the collective agreement.
