Children's inflatable sea floats, the use of which poses a risk of drowning for children from a possible fall into the sea, were identified and withdrawn from the Cypriot market and notified to the Safety Gate RAPEX System by the Consumer Protection Service (CSP).
The dangerous inflatables, based on an announcement by the Consumer Protection Agency, are Chinese-made and were spotted at GIFTLAND.
This is a frog-shaped children's inflatable, of an unknown brand, and it has been withdrawn because float seats must be used under constant adult supervision and because swimming aids should not appear to be toys and should not have an attractive appearance.
For the same risks, a children's boat-shaped inflatable and a helicopter-shaped children's inflatable, brand Numerous Star, were withdrawn.
In the announcement, the Ministry of Health states that during the week that began on 30/12/24 (RAPEX – Report 01), four more dangerous products that are dangerous for the safety and health of children have been notified to the System.
These products, as well as the corresponding inherent risks, are described here.
The Consumer Protection Service informs that it has already started intensive market checks for any detection of the products that have been notified as dangerous in the Safety Gate RAPEX.
Also, the Consumer Protection Service calls on importers, distributors, sellers who may have such products to immediately stop making them available and notify the Service.
The Consumer Protection Service also calls on consumers in case they own the above products, where it is considered appropriate to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store from which they were purchased, and at the same time to inform the seller accordingly.
He notes that, according to the Consumer Protection Law of 2021, in the event of the purchase of an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer has the right to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount paid. He reminds that the above rights are valid for a period of 2 years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the final seller always has the sole responsibility towards the consumer.
He adds that in the event that the seller refuses to respond to the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
