The Department of Forestry, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, due to the start of the hunting season (fassa hunting) on ​​Sunday, August 25, 2024, strongly appeals to hunters to be especially careful during their excursions in rural and forest areas, completely avoiding actions and activities likely to cause fire. That is, to completely avoid lighting a fire for any reason, as well as throwing lighted cigarette butts and matches, since the prevailing weather conditions are particularly favorable for the explosion and spread of fires.

It is also emphasized that the disposal of empty cartridges into the environment constitutes serious pollution and that this is also prohibited by the "Law on the Protection and Management of Wild Birds and Game". Therefore, the hunters are called as they collect the empty cartridges.

It is reminded that lighting a fire in forest and rural areas is strictly prohibited and that this action constitutes an offense which, according to the Forestry Lawis punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50.000,00 or both penalties together. Lighting a fire is allowed only in the specially designed grills of the Forestry Department's excursion sites for food preparation.

Finally, anyone who perceives smoke or fire in or near the forests is urged to immediately call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service).
