The Police identified a number of firecrackers in the possession of young people during coordinated checks nationwide to prevent juvenile delinquency, in view of the Easter holidays.
A Police statement states that in this context, during the night and early morning today, members of the Police carried out 179 checks of premises and open spaces. 197 persons, including minors, were also checked.
During patrols and inspections, the Police dealt with various incidents, mainly involving small fires in various open areas, as well as causing concern. They also made recommendations to young people, it is reported.
In Nicosia, at around 3.30am today, a motorcycle carrying two 18-year-olds was stopped for inspection. 36 firecrackers were found and confiscated in the possession of one of them and he was arrested. Also, in Nicosia, a 17-year-old was arrested outside a church after six firecrackers were found in his possession.
