SEK, PEO and DEOK expressed their strong dissatisfaction, disagreement and concern in a joint letter today to the Minister of Labor, Yiannis Panayiotou, regarding the Ministry's draft regarding the criteria for employing workers from third countries.
In their announcement, the three trade unions point out that the content of the draft did not take their positions into account and important provisions included in the previous criteria were deleted.
They also express, among other things, "reasonable concerns regarding the intention of the Ministry of Labor to differentiate the principle and the entire philosophy of the procedure", while strong concerns are also expressed regarding the "increase in the cut-off to 25% for the accommodation of workers from third countries, excluding them from the right to choose whether they wish to regulate their residence on their own, a fact that raises concerns about a covert reduction in their earnings".
They finally note that the framework regulating the operation of the Tripartite Advisory Committee "as formulated is incomplete and should be strengthened based on our proposal to ensure transparency and meritocracy in the granting of employment permits, as well as the constructive strengthening of tripartite cooperation."
"Our Trade Unions express their strong concern, which arises from the negative development in relation to the regulation of the Strategy, regarding the possibility of smooth and comprehensive management of the remaining issues before the Labor Advisory Body (LAS), a concern that will also be discussed with the other Trade Unions," they state.
"Reference to communication slogans without the appropriate content cannot in itself be enough, unless it is interconnected with substantive and socially fair regulations that ensure quality and dignity at work," the unions conclude.
