The "Digital Citizen" application is available on Google Play and Apple Store from today, Thursday, December 5, 2024.
"Digital Citizen" is the official application for mobile devices (mobile application) of the Cyprus Government, through which the citizen will be able to create and maintain in digital form official documents, fully equivalent to printed documents, for any legal use within of the Republic of Cyprus. It is noted that the digital documents created through the application are not international travel documents.
In the first stage, the application supports the creation of digital copies of the Identity Card, the Driving License and the Vehicle Fitness Certificate (MOT). The creation of digital copies is only permitted if the citizen legally holds the corresponding printed certificate.
The citizen will now be able to show the digital copy of his document to public services such as the Citizen Service Center (KEP) – Citizen Center (KEPO), while the specific tool is also available for immediate use by the private sector. The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy urges all agencies to immediately integrate the acceptance of the digital format of documents into their procedures. A relevant announcement will follow that will determine a specific adjustment period for all agencies, before the acceptance of digital documents of the "Digital Citizen" application becomes mandatory.
A necessary condition for using the application is that the citizen has an activated and authenticated CY Login profile, which is the common access mechanism to government systems and services. The application also requires that in the citizen's CY Login profile, the "Two-Factor Authentication" function is activated. Importantly, the authenticity of digital documents issued through the application can be verified with complete security. The documents are checked by scanning the QR code contained in each digital document. The verification officer, using the relevant function for "Document Verification" and after the user's approval, can verify its authenticity through the application.
For the purposes of informing users, a specialized website www.digital-citizen.gov.cy has been created with all relevant information about the application, as well as frequently asked questions and answers. The website also operates a Technical Support service, through which citizens can submit relevant requests regarding the use of the application, as well as the creation and management of each document.
The application will be officially presented in conjunction with other digital tools, such as the gov.cy portal which will now also integrate a Digital Assistant at a press conference to be held on December 12, 2024.
