A heroic figure of Karpasia, the one trapped by the Holy Trinity, Athena Zaoura, has passed away at the age of 92. The news was announced by AKEL Famagusta.

A heroic figure of Karpasia, the encased woman of the Holy Trinity, Athena Zaoura, left for the great journey today, at the age of 92.
Comrade Athena Zaoura was a woman who lost her children and grandchildren, her own life, to keep the flame for the reunification of our homeland and people unextinguished, remaining in occupied Agia Triada from 1974 until today. Until 2003, at the side of her comrade Michalis Zaoura and since then alone in Agia Triada, she continued her struggle for solution and reunification.
Have a safe journey, our beloved comrade Athena, and a happy reunion with your beloved Michalis. We will continue the struggle until the day our homeland is united and free again. Your struggles and sacrifices, and those of all those trapped, will not be in vain.
Her funeral will take place on Sunday, June 22 at 13:30 p.m., at Agia Triada.
The AKEL Famagusta District Committee expresses its deepest condolences to her family.
