A one-hour protest event will be held on Thursday, May 23, from 12:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., by the nurses who are members of PASYNO, and the members of the PASYDY Nurses' Branch for the understaffing, which they argue, prevails in state hospitals and the lack of promotion , as they state, on behalf of the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) of a relevant agreement concluded between them.
In his statements to KYPE, PASYNO's press representative Theodoros Petelis said that many efforts were made "to be able to move forward and correct the issue of understaffing".
"One year after the agreement which we signed together and which proved the deficit of 138 nurses, OKYPY has not made any move in this direction until today. What he has seen with the statements of the Organization's press representative, who chaired the specific meetings to make the agreement that the 138 nurses were needed, is that he now claims that there is no understaffing", he noted.
At the same time, Mr. Petelis continued, "neither in the letters we had sent to the Organization in the last period where we talked about understaffing did we get a similar response, which is why we are today together with our fellow trade unionists of PASYDY forced to proceed as a first measure in protest, which will take place on Thursday from 12 o'clock until one in the afternoon".
"With this attitude of protest, we want to show the world that this situation, which we are going through as workers, cannot continue any longer, but also in what situation with these actions the administrators have brought the hospitals today," he said.
He clarified that the nurses who will be at the protest event will be there during their free time and will not be working. "Our goal is not to burden this situation more but to improve the health and safety of employees and consequently the quality of the services we provide to our patients," he added.
He mentioned that there are complaints from the Cyprus Patient Associations Federation (OSAK) since the patients themselves are complaining about the understaffing of departments in terms of nurses. "The people themselves are calling out, demanding the Organization to have proper and quality services", he added.
The President of PASYDY's Nursing Branch Prodromos Argyridis stated that after the efforts they have made to OKYpy "to have an answer and a proper treatment regarding the agreement we made which they have not implemented so far, we will proceed on Thursday in a one-hour event protest with the staff who will not work at the entrances of the hospitals to send the message and our determination that it will not take us anymore, we will react with all means to claim the obvious".
When asked, Mr. Argyridis stated that according to the information the guild has, the positions that need to be filled are over 170.
