The Tax Department located on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue in Larnaca was evacuated due to smoke and fumes detected from the sewage system.
According to the Police, around 12:30 pm, a tenant of an apartment located in the building housing the Tax Department in Larnaca installed a cleaner in order to clean the sewer pipes.
Due to the fact that fumes from the cleaning agent used were coming out of the drainage pits and there was a strong odor, the Fire Department was called.
At the time, there were 5-6 people in the Tax Department who left the building as a precaution. Police officers went to the scene as a precaution and began investigations.
It is noted that a statement from the Fire Department states that the Larnaca Fire Stations responded with vehicles and a chemical response team to a call for fumes in the sewage system of a multi-storey building, which houses government services.
It is added that "a precautionary evacuation of the building took place, while a search was carried out in all areas of the building using breathing apparatus."
According to the Fire Department, "actions are being taken in collaboration with all competent services to manage the incident and there is no cause for concern."
