Of the initial list of 81.000 recalls for defective TAKATA airbags, another 33.000 are still pending repair, according to data provided to CNA by the Road Transport Department.
The TOM clarified that the data is up to date up to the previous week, since due to the summer holidays several companies are closed. It noted, however, that among the 33.000, 5.000 vehicles are immobilised and another 2.000 are written off, and therefore the number pending repair by the deadline given for early October is smaller.
Meanwhile, approximately 15.000 more vehicles have been recalled for the same problem, for which the information emerged along the way. The deadline for implementing the repair for these is eight months from the day the owners were notified. According to the TOM, the restoration process has also begun for these vehicles, noting, however, that priority is given on the one hand to those vehicles that are immediately immobilized and on the other hand to those on the initial list, as the deadline for them expires earlier.
The TOM is regularly informed by the companies about the pace of implementation of the recalls. As reported to CNA, several companies report that they have appointments available and the TOM calls on those who have not yet responded to do so.
