The Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) expresses strong concern about the dimensions that the issue of vehicle recalls has taken, especially for vehicles imported into Cyprus from third countries, without European specifications and without European Press Approval and calls on the State to enforce the Legislations and the Regulations, so that there are definitive and effective solutions to the problem and that each side and each merchant undertakes its share responsibility.
In a statement, the OEB states that "unfortunately, even today the state still allows the registration of imported used vehicles - with many recalls pending in their country of origin - putting even more burden on the network of authorized garages".
As he notes, "ignoring the existing legal framework, European practices and data on the Cypriot car market, an attempt is being made to place all the responsibilities on the general vehicle distributors, relieving the directly responsible importers and dealers of these used cars from their responsibilities and also downgrading the role of the Department of Road Transport (TOM)".
"According to the European Regulations", OEB adds, "the responsibility for the problems in these cars belongs to the importer and dealer who markets them and who is accountable to his customers, and not to the official general distributor".
