The Council of Ministers approved a bill yesterday that significantly increases penalties for using rubber to wash cars, sidewalks and other premises.
The Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Andreas Grigoriou, stated on the Morning Agenda that the bill, which is being promoted in the form of an urgent bill in Parliament, provides for an increase in the extrajudicial fine from fifty to one hundred euros or three hundred euros if there is a repetition of the offense.
Based on the new regulations, washing with a hose remains a criminal offense, but the maximum prison sentence is increased from three to six months and the maximum fine from five hundred to three thousand euros, or both.
At the same time, the District Local Government Organizations are designated as the competent authority, while inspectors for compliance with the legislation may be officers of the Water Development Department and members of the Police Force.
The Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture stated that it is expected that the bill will be passed into law before the Parliament's summer recess.
