The authorities were mobilized late yesterday afternoon, following the sending of threatening e-mails to plant bombs in private businesses with the aim of extorting money, which in the end turned out to be fraud.
According to the police, the senders of the emails were initially asking the management of a private hospital in Nicosia and then two hotels in Limassol for large amounts of cryptocurrency. They threatened that if they were not satisfied, they would proceed to activate explosive devices they had planted.
The cases were reported to the police, checks followed and it was found that it was an attempt to defraud and extort money.
In the case of the two hotels, an amount of 75.000 dollars in cryptocurrency had been requested, while in the case of the private hospital there is talk of 25.000.
Investigations by the Cybercrime Office are underway to identify the sender of the threatening messages.
