The Fire Department responded to a total of 184 calls for help, of which 92 were for fires, during the period 15-22 February, while from 06:00 on 23 February 2026 until 06:00 on 24 February 2026, it responded to 33 calls for help, according to a press release.
Specifically, yesterday at 12:43, a call was received for a fire in a warehouse in a house, in the Vavla community of Larnaca province, where the Vasilikos and Lefkara Rural Fire Stations responded with two fire engines and the fire was brought under control at 13:16. The fire and heat damaged electric generators inside the warehouse. The owner of the house noticed the fire and tried to contain it until the Fire Department arrived. The fire was caused by an electrical problem during the operation of a diesel generator inside the warehouse.
It is also reported that at 13:37, a call was received for a fire in a closed garage of a house, in the Avgorou community of the Famagusta district. The Famagusta Fire Stations, Sergeant Adamou Adamou and Rural Xylofagou, responded with two fire engines and the fire was brought under control at 14:03. The space, as well as its contents, were damaged by the fire and heat. The fire was caused by an electrical problem in the electrical installation of the space.
In a fire in a building used as a storage area for mechanical games "Luna Park", in Limassol, the Fire Department responded with four fire engines and a breathing apparatus vehicle from the Limassol Fire Stations. The fire and heat caused extensive damage to the space in question, as well as its contents, and a part of the roof collapsed. During the firefighting, three pressurized gas cylinders were located, on which the appropriate handling actions were carried out. An investigation into the causes of the fire will follow.
The Fire Department reports that it also responded to a fire in an abandoned warehouse in Engomi, Nicosia district. The warehouse in question, as well as its contents, suffered extensive damage from the fire and heat. A precautionary evacuation of an adjacent apartment building was carried out by members of the Fire Department and the Police. An investigation into the fire will follow, in collaboration with the Police.
