Themistos Arnaoutis, Chief of the Cyprus Police, discussed today the developments concerning the reorganization of the Cyprus Police, together with the Police Directors and Commanders of the Service.
According to a police statement, during the meeting, he made a special reference to the need to expedite the reorganization of the Organization, at an operational, organizational and administrative level, so that the Police can become a modern organization and be able to respond more effectively to the ever-growing needs of society and the protection of citizens.
The planned changes, both at the organizational and operational levels, it is stated, "will respond to the increasing threats from serious and organized crime, as well as corruption, issues of sports violence, the increased expectations of citizens regarding their accessibility to the Organization itself, as well as the services offered by the Cyprus Police."
He also referred to the modernization of services related to information and smart policing, as well as the utilization of technology.
He also recognized that such radical changes, which also involve a change in culture both within and outside the Organization, require time for their implementation and completion to ensure the effectiveness that both the body itself and society desire and require.
In a first stage, the aim is to improve the speed and efficiency of the response, particularly in the way in which 112 calls are handled and at the same time to improve the response to serious and critical incidents, with the involvement of experienced and trained members of the Police and the complete upgrade and reorganization of the Police based on the plan as soon as possible, focusing on practical changes that will improve operational performance.
During the meeting, the Chief expressed his satisfaction with the President of the Republic and the Minister of Justice and Public Order for their full support for the Police reorganization program.
Mr. Arnaoutis stated that the reorganization will modernize and improve the full range of services of the Cyprus Police, which require significant investments, so that the Police becomes a modern, efficient and effective organization by 2030.
