Attorney General Giorgos Savvidis proceeded with the appointment of lawyers Stefanos Skordis and Christos Karas as independent Criminal Investigators in the case of the escape of convict Theodoros Theofanous on September 26, 2024. Investigators were given a two-month time period to complete the investigation.
In his written statement, the Attorney General states that the terms of reference of Mr. Skordis and Kara are conducting a criminal investigation regarding the possibility of criminal offenses being committed by any members of the Police, members of the Prisons Department and/or any other person regarding the events that took place on 26.09.2024 and regarding the circumstances of the escape of the convict Theodoros Theophanous, but also the conditions for granting an exit permit to the said convict both on 26.09.2024 as in other cases in the past.
"Exercising my powers under subsection (2) of Article 4 of the Criminal Procedure Law, Chap. 155, and after having studied both the report, dated 18.12.2024, of the investigation carried out by the Central Prisons with the purpose of investigating the events that took place on 26.09.2024 to establish any disciplinary responsibilities by members of the Prisons management, which sent to the Legal Service with a letter from the Minister of Justice and Public Order, dated 02.01.2025, as well as the report, dated 18.12.2024, of the disciplinary investigation conducted by the Police to establish any disciplinary responsibilities by members of the Police, which was sent to the Legal Service on 03.01.2025, I proceeded today Wednesday, January 8 2025, in the appointment of lawyers Mrs. Stefanos Skordis and Christos Karas, as independent Criminal Investigators", Mr. Savvidis.
