The PASYEK-PEO and OEKDY-SEK unions are waiting to receive the positions of the OKYPY in writing for the hourly staff in the hospitals after the two-hour meeting they had today. Upon receipt of the posts, they will decide whether to suspend the 24-hour strike that has been announced for July 23 in public hospitals from 6:30 am until 6:30 am the following day.
As the Central Organizer of PASYEK-PEO Stavros Andreou told KYPE during the meeting, OKYPY "seems to have agreed with the positions of the unions".
The first issue that was discussed today was the termination of OKYPY's policy of hiring seasonal hourly workers and the Organization's commitment that for its additional permanent needs arising either due to building extensions or for other works, there will be staffing with permanent hourly staff.
"It seems that during the discussion the Organization has accepted our position and agrees that it will end the policy of hiring seasonal workers and replace it with permanent hourly hires," said Mr. Andreou.
The second serious issue we discussed with the Agency, he continued, was the limitation of the purchase of services to very specialized work. Because, he noted, it was observed in the past that for work carried out by hourly workers, agreements were now concluded with third parties and private companies, a fact with which we disagree.
"It seems that we have come to the conclusion that the Agency will limit its policy to purchase services only in specialized cases and for the work carried out by hourly staff it will not enter into such cooperation contracts", he added.
Mr. Andreou emphasized that "we will not suspend the measures we announced a few days ago. The Organization has asked us for 24 hours to send us in writing what we have discussed and its final position in relation to the issues we have raised. So we will reconsider our decision for a 24-hour strike on July 23 by accepting the letter from OKYPY and confirming what has been discussed today," he said.
If you realize that this is not implemented, he pointed out, the letter is not sent to us or the letter that will be sent to us is far and away from what has been agreed in the context of our meeting today, you realize that we will proceed with the strike measures, he noted.
"If we are satisfied with what the Organization will send us tomorrow, then we will activate our bodies to review the workers' decisions for a 24-hour strike", he concluded.
For his part, the Secretary General of OEKDY-SEK, Giorgos Konstantinou, told KYPE that during the discussion "we have reached an agreement on how to solve the problems that exist in the Organization, with specific timetables for which there will be a written commitment of the Organization in the two guilds until tomorrow at noon".
Mr. Constantinou stated that "we think we are turning the page and the Organization will have a better communication with the two guilds to discuss the problems that arise from time to time".
We will move forward, he continued, with specific timetables to resolve the existing problems, mainly the staffing issue that exists with the hiring of seasonal staff. The Organization, he noted, will proceed with the announcement of the positions "while the seasonal workers who have been hired will be given the opportunity to claim" the positions.
In addition, he said, the Organization will not proceed to implement a service market, but only for specialized services on the basis of dialogue with the guilds.
