The Cyprus Fire Service, in a statement, informs the public that, according to the forecasts of the Department of Meteorology for a particularly dry period until March 21, 2025, the risk of fires exploding and spreading will be increased.
We strongly urge the public to be particularly careful, avoiding activities and actions that may cause fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame (emery, oxygen welding, electric welding, etc.), the disposal of lit cigarette butts or other hot objects in an open area, etc.
Additionally, special attention must be paid to preventive measures to avoid causing fires from the exhaust fumes of various electric generators or water pumps in the countryside.
It is recalled that burning grass, branches and rubbish is prohibited and that lighting a fire anywhere is prohibited except for the preparation of food within specially permitted and designated areas.
Anyone who notices smoke or fire is asked to immediately call 112 or 1407.
