The consumption of locally produced meat and milk does not pose any health risk, following the incidents of suspected foot-and-mouth disease in the occupied village of Lapathos, according to the Turkish Cypriot "veterinarians' association".
As reported in the occupied territories, in a statement the "union" states that the correct information on the issue is provided by the "competent services" and veterinarians and appeals to consumers not to panic over publications and posts that may be untrue and misleading.
The announcement refers to the procedure followed with the identified incidents and states that the "competent authorities" have decided to take and implement all necessary measures such as quarantine, vaccination, disinfection, biosecurity measures on farms and at the individual level, the slaughter of animals and the control and restrictions on the movement of animals.
Among other things, the "veterinarians' association" states that all movements of cattle and sheep and goats should stop for at least one month, the transport of slaughter animals should be carried out directly from livestock facilities to the slaughterhouse and to slaughterhouses, livestock facilities and dairy production facilities, as well as disinfection stations should be installed on the routes determined by the "veterinary service".
