The Takata Airbag Investigation Committee is recommending criminal charges against three individuals and disciplinary charges against around five individuals, said its Chairman Michalakis Christodoulou, a former Supreme Court Judge, on Friday, who delivered the Committee's findings to the Attorney General, Giorgos Savvidis.
The Committee is recommending both disciplinary and criminal liability for six or seven of these individuals, Mr. Christodoulou said.
He also noted that they disagree with the Kotzambasis report, which was called upon to investigate whether the change in the 2017 circular, by which the Department of Road Transport (DRT) exempted Manufacturers' Distributors (MDC) of cars from liability for used cars but did not cover what happens in the event that they present a problem and which concluded that it did not identify disciplinary offenses. According to Mr. Christodoulou, the Committee considers that not only were there possible disciplinary offenses, but also the offense of abuse of power by a public servant. He noted that the DRT did not have the authority to relieve MDCs of their responsibilities and that the only competent authority was Parliament.
The Attorney General said that the findings will be studied by a team of legal officers from the Legal Service and that it will be made public with the minimum possible interference with personal data or in cases where there may be a need for a criminal investigation.
