The National Guard is in a more disadvantaged position than before 1974, says the Cyprus Center for Strategic Studies in a statement, responding to recent statements by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Defense on defense and the National Guard (E. F.).
Among other things, the Center notes that "EF, as the President says, is indeed much better than it was 60 years ago. It is a more organized set with relatively better equipment, greater cohesion and more qualified staff. But they are militarily and geographically at an extremely disadvantageous position than before 1974."
Furthermore, it states that "the announcement of the promoted proposal of women's voluntary military service is impressive but also revealing of sloppiness." He adds that "the YPAM himself admitted that this decision was not the product of a study but - if possible - because "through discussion, it was found that women were interested in serving".
