PA.D.E.D. Protoporia and Progressive increased their percentages during yesterday's elections for the selection of the new leadership of POED for the four-year period 2024-2028, which is expected to be announced by the end of June. PA.D.E.D. Vantoporia emerged as the first mover, recording a 2,92% increase in its percentage, while Progressive recorded a 2,35% increase.

The global Cypriot results from yesterday's voting by the members of the POED are as follows: 1. PA.D.ED.D. Vanguard: 34,72% (2.159) – up 2,92%, 2. PEAK: 27,26% (1.695) – down 4,33%, 3. Progressive: 22,95% (1.427) – up 2,35 %, 4. DIANA: 15,07% (937) - decrease of 0,94%.

Of the 7.014 teachers who had the right to vote in yesterday's POED elections, 6.326 went to the polls and voted, i.e. 90,19%. Valid ballots were 6.218, invalid were 89 and blank were 19.

The President of POED, Myria Vassiliou, in her statements to KYPE, and when asked about it, said that during yesterday's process everything went smoothly, adding that it is very moving the large turnout of teachers at a time when institutions are being questioned.

"We feel really proud of the fact that 9 out of 10 teachers, i.e. 90% of POED members, went to the polls all over Cyprus, highlighting those who will represent the Organization, in its collective bodies, for the next four years."

Mrs. Vassiliou said that "in addition, the message of unity resulting from the large turnout is recorded. A message of unity that the day after the POED elections must find all factions united to continue to claim what we are entitled to and what we deserve".

By the end of June, he continued, the representatives from each Movement will clarify what concerns the representation of the Movements in the collective bodies of the Organization.

Asked what this large turnout of the Organization's members means for the current leadership of POED, Mrs. Vassiliou said that this large turnout is a vote of confidence for POED, for POED officials, "highlighting, at the same time, the responsibility that belongs to all of us who represent primary education teachers, making a promise from our side that we will continue with the same dynamism and the same zeal to fight for public education".

In the meantime, based on the results, the 100 General Representatives in numbers by Movement are as follows: PADED Protoporia 35, AKIDA 27, Proodeftii 23, DIANA 15.

When asked what is the process followed until the new leadership is appointed, Ms. Vassiliou said that each Movement, based on its own Constitution, will meet to decide which people will represent the Movement both in the 100-member House of General Representatives and the 13-member Executive Board of the Organization, as well as in the District Committees.

Asked when the new leadership of POED is expected to emerge, Ms. Vassiliou said that within June the decisions of the Movements are expected and then the Pan-Cypriot Conference of General Representatives will be convened and by the end of June it is expected that the new leadership of the POED will emerge.
