As of the morning of March 24, only about 28% of the extrajudicial fines that were paid and concern traffic violations, which have been recorded by the Traffic Light System, amounted to the time when their repayment period ends next Monday, March 31.
Specifically, according to data collected by the Cyprus News Agency, the complaints regarding these specific extrajudicial fines, which concern the period between 1/1/2022 - 30/9/2024, amount to 250.000 and by the morning of March 28, around 60.000 had been paid.
The repayment period for outstanding extrajudicial fines that have not been received by the owners of the vehicles involved in these violations began on January 8, 2025 and lasts until March 31, 2025.
After this period, according to a relevant announcement by the Police, in the event that the owner of a vehicle fails to pay any extrajudicial fine against him, for a violation or violations that have been recorded by the Photographic Marking System, a criminal file will be formed and he will be subject to criminal prosecution, without further delay.
In the announcement, in early January 2025, the Police urged vehicle owners to check to see whether their vehicle has been recorded by the Traffic Light System and then to settle any outstanding issues.
