The Pancyprian Association of Nurses and Midwives (PA.SY.NM.) is asking the Auditor General to document his report against the two nurses.
In an open letter, the Association states that "we ask the Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Andreas Papakonstantinou, who, during the meeting of the Parliamentary Audit Committee, on Thursday 16/01/2025 and during the discussion on the report of the Audit Service for the Central Administration of the State Health Services Organization, made accusations against State Hospital Nurses, to document them."
Specifically, as the Association reports, "the Auditor General's allegations state that two nurses "were covering for each other and unjustifiably not coming to work, in other words, they were deceiving the Organization and falsely presenting themselves as working, while in reality they had other work and continued to be paid normally."
He adds that, as the Auditor General stated, "when the OKYpY realized this, the only penalty imposed on them was to deprive them of two increments", speaking of a message of laxity and culture, which is not suitable for an Organization of such scope, which also seeks its financial sustainability".
The Association calls on the General Elector to immediately proceed with a nominal complaint of these incidents, which should be fully documented and supported by evidence, to the PA.SY.N.M., so that they can be referred to the Disciplinary Council of Nurses and Midwives.
"If there is no such evidence, we ask that he immediately retract his words and publicly apologize to the Nurses and their Scientific Association," he adds.
The Association states that "these statements, if there is no evidence to prove them, unfairly "condemn" Nurses and the Nursing profession, since they create false impressions of unethical and unprofessional behavior, especially focused on nurses in State Hospitals."
