High dust concentrations are observed in the atmosphere on Friday, according to measurements from the ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labor Inspection.
According to an announcement by the Department of Labor Inspection, because the dust contains small inhalable particles, which may have a negative impact on human health, the public, and especially vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and the sick), are urged to avoid moving around in open spaces until the phenomenon has passed.
The TEE states that the affected companies, based on the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health (Code of Practice for the Protection of Persons at Work During Dust Incidents) Decree of 2022 (K.D.P. 410/2022), should conduct a risk assessment and take the appropriate measures (organizational and/or technical) to protect the safety and health of workers who are in open spaces (e.g. use of a mask and/or other means of personal protection).
The latest hourly dust concentration values measured at 08:00 in the following areas were in Nicosia, 199,9 μg/m3, in Limassol 83,7 μg/m3, in Larnaca 95,2 μg/m3, in Paralimni 54,6 μg/m3, in Paphos 40,7 μg/m3, in Zygi 71,1 μg/m3 and in Agia Marina Xyliatou 32,8 μg/m3.
It is noted that "dust" means inhalable suspended particles in the atmosphere with a diameter of less than 10 μm (PM10).
According to the relevant legislation, the limit value refers to the average daily value and should not exceed the value of 50 μg / m3 (micrograms per cubic meter).
