A total of 97.096 commercial flights were recorded in 2025 at Larnaca and Paphos international airports, according to Eurostat data, which was published on Friday.
Based on the sum of Eurostat's monthly data, 73.226 commercial flights were recorded at Larnaca Airport during 2025, while at Paphos Airport the corresponding number amounted to 23.870.
The highest traffic at both Cypriot airports was recorded in August, when 8.619 commercial flights took place in Larnaca and 2.961 in Paphos, with the total for the two airports amounting to 11.580.
Traffic was also high in July, with 8.163 flights in Larnaca and 2.745 in Paphos, while in September 7.727 and 2.713 flights were recorded respectively.
In contrast, the lowest total number at the two Cypriot airports was recorded in February, with 3.387 flights in Larnaca and 905 in Paphos.
Almost 7 million commercial flights in the EU
According to Eurostat, at the European Union level, a total of 6,9 million commercial flights were recorded in 2025, a number increased by 3,8% compared to 6,7 million in 2024.
Eurostat reports that the number of commercial flights has been increasing steadily since 2021 and returned to levels similar to those before the pandemic in 2025. In 2019, around 7 million commercial flights were recorded in the EU.
Non-scheduled commercial flights, which include charter flights and other special flights, represented 8,5% of the total number of commercial flights in the EU in 2025.
According to Eurostat, the highest rates of non-scheduled flights were recorded during the summer months. More specifically, in June, when a total of 648.707 commercial flights were operated in the EU, non-scheduled flights accounted for 11,2% of the total. In July, the percentage increased to 12,3%, out of a total of 690.855 flights, while in August it stood at 11,4%, with 693.046 total flights.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport recorded the highest number of commercial flights among EU airports in 2025, with around 488.000 scheduled and non-scheduled flights.
This was followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 476.000 flights and Frankfurt Airport with 457.000.
Among the ten EU airports with the highest total number of commercial flights, the highest proportion of non-scheduled flights was recorded at Athens Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” with 5,2%. It was followed by Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport with 4,8% and Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport with 4,1%.
